What is L.A.S.S.O. and How You Can Help
L.A.S.S.O. (Local Animal Shelter Support Organization) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to supporting the Elko Animal Shelter and improving the lives of animals in our community. Our mission is to eliminate animal overpopulation, reduce euthanasia, and ensure that every adoptable animal has a chance at a loving home.
Thanks to the generosity of donors and volunteers, L.A.S.S.O. helps the shelter remain a no-kill facility, giving every healthy and treatable animal a second chance. Since opening the Dumke–Weeks Spay/Neuter Clinic, we’ve provided care for more than 8,500 shelter animals and continue to serve over 2,000 animals each year. Our work includes funding spay and neuter surgeries for all shelter animals, hosting low-cost vaccination and microchip clinics, and supporting the Trap, Neuter, Release (TNR) program that manages and cares for community cats. We also provide critical medical funding for shelter pets in need, assist rescue groups with medical and transportation support, and are working toward future shelter expansion.
There are many ways you can donate to L.A.S.S.O. to make an impact. You can give online at lassoelko.org/donate or mail a check to P.O. Box 1333, Elko, NV 89803. Donations can also come through aluminum can or scrap metal recycling, which turn everyday items into funding for shelter care. Sponsoring a kennel in honor of a beloved pet or as a business is another meaningful option, while in-kind donations such as food, toys, leashes, and beds provide immediate comfort to the animals.
Every action—whether it’s a financial gift, a bag of cans, or a blanket dropped off at the shelter—directly supports animals in Elko County. When you support L.A.S.S.O., you are helping to save animal lives, improve care, and create a brighter future for pets and the people who love them.
